A lot of tourists, mostly in groups, and a lot of FRENCH tourists, Ihadn't seen such a concentration of French since I started to traveled... The heart of the center, the old city with stari most (old bridge), is not difficult to find. Part of the UNESCO worls heritage, the stari most was constructed under the Ottoman empire, ordered by Suleiman the magnificent, and one of the greatest architectural work from this time. Sadly, the war didn't spare this master piece and it was destroyed  the 9 November 1993. In 1998, Unesco set a comittee of experts and the reconstruction of the bridge was set up, as silimar as possible as the original, using the same materials and techology.
 Once again, despite the touristic concentration in the old city, I entered a new world in the Balkans, an Ottoman city. I knew this area was populated by Croatian and Muslim, but mosques are everywhere, if you stand up at a high point and observ you can easily find a dozen of them! Churches are not so much, but on the West part, I will talk more about this subject later....
The Ottoman/Turkish influences here are obvious, on the market for tourists for example, they sell "traditional" stuff that I knew from Turkey: embroided purses, nazar boncugu (evil eye), copper pans to make coffee... I had to wait my host who was only coming at the end of the day, and stopped for a while in a bar out of the touristic zone. Some guys were drinking beer and singing traditional Bosnian songs very loud. It was very similar to Turkish music .

 I got very satisfied when I noted that here I could really afford to eat outside whenever I'm hungry, or have a drink or an ice cream whenever I wanted, because the prices are still adapted to local people purchase power, not for the toursist's one. That's how for 1 Mark,0,50€ you can have a delicious ice cream or coffee, or for 1,5Mark a big burek, this turkish speciality, pastry stuffed with cheese, most of the time, that you can find in every country in the Balkans.
It soundss strange, yes, bus the currency instored in 1995 by the Dayton agreement, the Mark (as th German mark: 1€=2marks) has been established as the official currency, to harmonize economic exchanges and the  replace the Croatian kuna, Republika Srpska dinar and Bosnia and Herzegovina dinar. But you can also pay with euro, which is accepted almost everywhere.

 In the evening my host Marko took me in in flat and welcomed me very well with a shot of arakia, strong liqueur that we can find in Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia. Then we went to meet a friend of him in a bar. On the road we met some other people he knows. I have to say that I was very impressed by the Englsh level of all the people I've met, perfect pronounciation and vocabulary. They also seem to have a huge culture: for example when they were asking me where I am from and I was telling them Bretagne, all of them knew where it was! I had the opportunity to talk with Marko's friend about French literature and painting, this guy studied this subject a little at school but I don't know until which point, he just knew everything! He also taught me about Henry pointcarré and his predominant influence in surrealist movement... Great interesting first night I had.
