• OPEN LJUBLJANA

First I have to say that, as I was expecting, and as I had already seen in the other cities, Ljubljana is very clean, and people contribute to maintain it clean. A good representation of this is the Let's do it, European ecological initiative in which every volunteer person go in the city or nature to collect the garbage. It took place in the end of April in Slovenia, and has been a big success: one eighth of the population participated actively.

Well, the result is great, walking in Ljubjana is pleasant, if you don't consider the concentration of tourists that is very strange: they are only concentrated in main square and steets, on 15 km 2, you just have to walk 5-10 minutes and you don't see them anymore!

    INTRODUCTION

The most famous thing attraction of the city is undoubtedly the Triple Bridge, INTRODUCTION
mostly realized by Jose Plecnick, most famous architect of the city, he had a very important role in Ljubjana's reconstruction in the 20's. Indeed, the city has undergone many heathquackes, the most famous in 1511 and 1895. Combining many architectural styles, he was the author of very different works, including many religious monuments, in Ljubjana, Viena and Prague. He was also the author of the church of sacred heart in Prague.

The funny thing was that he wa both very religious and communist, that maybe quite repressentative of how he was able to take the best of every influences.

    Metelkova mesto

In the first day, Andrej took me to what is certainely the best place in Ljubjana: Metelkova mesto. Originally, this part of the city was a set of many military baracks, and a prison. After Slovenian independance in 1991, and when the Yougoslav army left,  the student  took over the place and transformed it in a free space for artisitc expression, transformed  the prison in a youth hostel (Celica hotel, the most famous in the country: both gallery and hostel, the rooms were made in a prison's cell style, both made by a diffrent designer, and the prices are quite reasonable!), the barracks in bars and clubs Self declared "Autonomous culture zone".
This completely alternative place is just most crazy I've ever seen! There is art everywhere: the barracks are all painted or sculpted, with mosaic... you just son't know where to watch, because it's full of small esthetical, critical, philosophical details in evey corner.

    INTRODUCTION INTRODUCTIONINTRODUCTION INTRODUCTION

We spent really nice moments there, listening good music, and have interesting discussion. Andrej is an open book about Slovenia and Jugoslavia, and he was a soldier in Yougoslav army and then in Slovenian volunteer army, so he has very interesting stories to tell.

My stay in Ljubljana was animated by very interesting discussion with Diego and Linda, the Italian couple. who live in Andrej's house, a guy with a very special way of living and special life concepts, it was a pleasure to talk with them.
I had bad luck because I planned to go to Bled lake, everybody was telling me about this lake and it was 50 km far from Ljubljana, but the waither was so bad that I stayed at home, working on the pictures and videos.
